“EAGLS is for girls, about girls, and driven by girls. . .”
The East African Girls Leadership Summit (EAGLS) continues to evolve to meet the increased demand and emerging needs of the people it serves. The accompanying Mentor Program builds a diverse network of young woman leaders who advocate for girls’ and women’s rights, and coordinate across borders to advance gender equality.
Each year, EAGLS convenes young women and their mentors from all over East Africa to participate in an innovative leadership training. Together with their mentors, girls create a framework to utilize their burgeoning leadership skills to address barriers to girls’ education while advancing gender equality within their own communities.
After spending a week with their peers and mentors to develop their creative leadership skills, EAGLS participants take these skills back to their communities and take part in creative social actions. At this point, girls are encouraged to apply for social action mini-grants, which help them implement their social actions and further deepen the impact of the summit.
